Grades 1-2 Games

Grades 1–2 math — addition, subtraction, place value, and mental fluency

First and second grade is where arithmetic moves from a counting activity to a thinking activity. The games in this collection target the four pillars of early elementary math: addition and subtraction within 20 with full fluency, addition and subtraction within 100 with regrouping, an early grasp of place value (tens and ones), and the beginnings of mental math — strategies like making ten, doubles plus one, and counting on rather than counting all. Every game maps to a specific Common Core domain (1.OA, 1.NBT, 2.OA, 2.NBT) and includes recommended-age rationale so parents can see exactly why a game is suggested for a six-year-old versus an eight-year-old.

We avoid timed flash-card drilling. The evidence on math fluency is clear: kids who learn facts through patterns, visual structures, and number-line reasoning retain them longer and transfer the skill to harder problems. So you will see ten-frames, hopping number lines, balance scales, and skip-counting safaris in this collection — not stopwatches. The games adapt the difficulty automatically based on a child's recent answers, so a child who has solidly mastered the doubles facts will see harder questions in the next session, while a child who is still consolidating gets more practice at the same level.

Parents who want to coach alongside the games can read our notes on number-line thinking and times-tables foundations. Read our Learn Hub · Visit the parent guide
