How to play
You pilot a submarine through a coordinate-grid ocean. Each round, the captain calls out coordinates ("navigate to (4, 7)") and you steer the submarine to that point. Hit the right cell to pick up a treasure; miss and the captain politely repeats. Quadrants expand from the first only (positive x and y) into all four as the child progresses.
What your child will learn
- Identify and classify 2D shapes
- Measure perimeter and area
Skills practiced
- Spatial reasoning
- Measurement
Why this age range
Best in grades 5–6 because coordinate plotting is curriculum-aligned in those grades. Younger children can play but the abstraction (x and y as ordered pair) tends to slide off; older children find first-quadrant work too easy and want functions, which the game doesn't yet offer.

Notes for parents
The coordinate plane is the bridge between arithmetic and algebra, and a child who's at home with it before middle school sails through linear functions, slope, and graphing. Coordinate Quest is built to make that bridge familiar. Pay attention if your child consistently swaps the x and y values — that's a common, fixable mistake, and noticing it early saves a lot of confusion later.
